Tribute to a Nursing Instructor
In your hands you hold the future
Of the hearts you teach each day
And in honor of your calling
There’s a tribute far away
Far above the stars of heaven
In a place where angels dwell
On a palace wall of ivory
Are the letters “HDL”
And these letters hold a meaning
Known to angels far and wide
A reflection of your teaching
One the angels hold with pride
For there is no higher calling
That a teacher can impart
Then to pass along the knowledge
That will birth a caring heart
So each day within the heavens
Angels gather and recite
Every letter, and its meaning
In a song of pure delight
H is honor your exhibit
Every day within your role
As you portray nursing practice
As you meet each nursing goal
D is for your dedication
For your efforts never tire
To instill within your students
Higher standards to aspire
But beyond your dedication
There’s a gift you freely share
As you teach each nursing student
To excel in nursing care
And this gift is where your heart is
Where the letter “L” takes place
Where success in all your teaching
Brings together heaven’s grace
It’s the love you show in practice
That does yield a caring heart
That produces future angels
And on earth God’s love impart
So upon a wall of ivory
Diamond letters shine in pride
A reflection of your teaching
For all time it will abide.
